Hi!
Have an older (1993) Thermador Range which recently received a "bad thermostat" prognosis (by a professional repairman).

Details are as follows:
Model: GER 486 GD
Serial #: 9403026
Part #: 486944 (thermostat regulator, manufactured by Bosch)

Unfortunately, part is listed as NLA, Thermador Support has been no help, and contacts with some 6-8 different internet sources have all resulted in "Sorry, we don't have it in stock, don't know where to get one". The Old Appliance Club folks said they gave up on rebuilding Thermador Thermostats long ago, so that

Any other recommended solutions and/or sources for this part, or even good alternates for getting a rebuilt thermostat (or this one rebuilt)?

Any and all leads appreciated...thanks in advance.

I have a 486945. Looks the same as a 486944 as far as terminals but there must be a difference? Anyone know? I don't even remember what unit it's for.

Yea, I had trouble with the model #, too, but my mother-in-law looked twice.

We do know the part # is correct, as that was pulled directly from the defective thermostat.

Unfortunately, the Repco folks said they don't have (and don't rebuild) Thermador thermostats; another hopeful lead turns up dry.

Is there any information on the specs of the two respective parts mentioned in this thread, to see if 486945 is possibly a compatible replacement for the 'unobtanium' 486944 ?

We're starting to get a wee bit desperate ;)

All thoughts/leads appreciated!

I have a thermador double oven with microwave. The ovens are running about 60 degrees too hot. Is there any adjustment of the temperatures? The model # is CMT-21. The serial # is 83060870.
I have the manual and there is no instructions that I have found. Am I missing it?

Pull the knob off. If there is a hole in the center of the t'stat shaft a long thin flat blade screwdriver is use to adjust the temp. Adjust in very little steps. There maybe plastic plugging the hole so it is not tampered with for warranty, just dig it out.

The only thing to try is see if your can find someone to rebuild it for you, here is one that was posted above in this thread...do a google search to see if there might be others who can do this for you. I have never tried to have one rebuilt and do not know it is might be worth it or not, this would be your decision..

I contacted BSH about this part, and they said it has no replacement. They also claimed to know nothing about "head technicians" saying there is a replacement. Angel Appliances doubts that the replacement part will fit, because the wire does not appear to be long enough in the photo of the replacement part.

Has anyone been able to confirm that the replacement part does indeed replace the obsolete one? Thanks for your help.

i think jerry actually called me directly to confirm- but yes, we have used 487537 twice now with asbolute success.

there is one technician in thermador tech support that has been there for probably 12+ years and is far more knowledgeable than some of the other tech support reps. he is the one that gave us that part number.
we coined the term 'head technician' because of his seniority and knowledge.

we are not certain if part number 487537 will work with 486944, but it certainly with out a doubt works for 486945.

OK, here's the confirmation. Going on Chris' info, we ordered the replacement thermostat and had it installed (not cheap, total was over $400 with labor). Today, it was checked with an oven thermometer, and it worked just fine. Chris and the Thermador tech were right on the money. Thanks, Chris for your help. It literally saved replacing the entire wall system at a cost of several $K. My friend could not be happier. Now, I only wish Chris lived in Dallas so I would have someone nearby in case I need help. I have a Thermidor range model# GCR 484 GG and need a "griddle thermostat" last manufactored about 8 years ago. I've not been able to find a part number despite searching the internet , talking to the dealer that sold it to me, and calling Fox Appliance in Atlanta. Any info would be appreciated. I'm willing to pay any reasonable amount to replace the thermostat and get my griddle back.

I just repaired a thermostat from a Thrmador range mod GCRG 304 that's about 15 years young. After much research trying to find a part through Thermador and Robert Shaw who origionaly built the part, I was told it was NLA and should replace the range. I took the device apart and cleaned the contacts which had a small build up of carbon preventing power from reaching the igniter. After making sure there was continuity I re installed the thermostat and everything works fine.
I was also told that the thermostat cannot be rebuilt but I found it can sure be cleaned of carbon. My wife is glad we don't have to spend 4K on a new range.

I am also looking to correct an issue with my thermador oven temperature control part 486945
Part 497537 will correct the problem I have with my oven dial temperature issue but I am told by tec support that I will lose my ability to use the self cleaning aspect of the oven.
Have others found this to be the case?
If so has anyone found a solution that will correct temp control and maintain the self cleaning?
Thanks for any ideas

The current Thermador, dual fuel, 30" or 36" oven t-stat is part number 622568. This latest t-stat replaced the no longer available 486945 and 497537, and, as mentioned above, will not support a s/c cycle. I've yet to be told why this is the case, but I suspect it has something to do with the door lock / unlock circuit.

Anyone still in need of a 486944 , 1051733 , 64808-0 oven temp thermostat?
I have a model GCR 484 GC that I have pulled out the thermostat control. I have many of the electrical parts that make up the controls of this range.
I am converting it to electronic control of both ovens. If anyone would like to get ahold of me before I list them on ebay, please email me back at rde@dakotacom.net
