Refrigeration Reference Number: UD-16 Document Type: Service Updates 2nd Half 1999 Part No. 4322614 36 “KitchenAid Built-In Bottom-Mount Refrigerator/Freezer INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS Installation procedures of the KitchenAid Built-ln Bottom-Mount Refrigerator/Freezer are very similar to the installation procedures for the KitchenAid Built-ln Side-By-Side Refrigerator/ Freezer. It is important that the anti-tip board is installed as indicated in the Installation Instructions .Since the freezer drawer is a pullout, the unit can easily become unbalanced, especially if both the freezer drawer and the refrigerator door are opened at the same time. REMOVING THE FREEZER DRAWER The freezer drawer and basket assembly slides from the freezer compartment on telescoping rails, located on each side of the unit. The entire drawer and basket assembly can be removed from the freezer compartment as follows: 1.Remove the contents from the freezer baskets. 2.Lift the top freezer basket up and out of the unit. 3.On the right side of the unit, locate the release lever on the telescoping rail and press the lever down.NOTE:The insets in the illustrations show the levers in the “locked ” position.. 4.On the left side of the unit, locate the release lever and push the lever up. 5.Pull the complete drawer and basket assembly straight out and off the telescoping rails. INSTALLING THE FREEZER DRAWER 1.Push the telescoping rails all the way back into the freezer compartment. 2.Position the silver metal carriage that houses the ball bearings to its front plastic stop position inside the telescoping rail. 3.Align the slides on the freezer drawer with the telescoping rails and push the drawer all the way into the freezer.Do not force the drawer slides into the rails or you could damage the rails and slides. 4.Pull the freezer drawer out as far as the stop to make sure that it is locked into the telescoping rails. Also, make sure that the silver metal carriage with the ball bearings moves forward with the drawer when it is opened. It is important for proper operation that the carriage moves with the slides that are attached to the freezer drawer. ACCESSING THE EVAPORATOR &RELATED COMPONENTS The evaporator, evaporator fan motor, defrost heater, drip pan heater, and bimetal are located at the top of the freezer compartment under a metal cover.Use the following procedure to access the components: 1.Disconnect the unit from the electrical supply. 2.Remove the freezer drawer and basket assembly. 3.Remove the two freezer light bulbs from their sockets. 4.Remove the three (3)screws from the drain tube cover and remove the cover and the insulation from the evaporator. 5.Disconnect the drain tube heater from the wiring harness. 6.Remove the seven (7)hex-head screws from the evaporator cover. FREEZER COMPONENT LOCATIONS The serviceable components inside the freezer compartment are shown in the illustration.NOTE:The Wiring Diagram on the Tech Sheet for this product shows two defrost heaters. One is the “drain pan defrost heater,” and the other is the “evaporator defrost heater.” ACCESSING THE WATER INLET VALVE The water inlet valve is located under the freezer compartment behind the toe panel. Use the following procedure to access the inlet valve: 1.Disconnect the unit from the electrical supply. 2.Remove the two (2)phillips screws from the base of the toe panel. ACCESSING THE MOTORIZED DAMPER The motorized damper is located at the top rear of the refrigerator compartment behind the louvered panel.Use the following procedure to access the motorized damper: 1.Disconnect the unit from the electrical supply. 2.Remove the decorative end caps from the louvered panel. LEVELING CONTROLS The front and rear rollers can be adjusted to level the refrigerator/freezer from the front of the unit. The leveling adjustments are located at the bottom left and right corners of the unit, and can be turned with a 5/16 socket. The adjustments are labeled F for the front, and R for the rear.
